Spotlight

CEPA Management launched the Spotlight Drama Program in 2017 in partnership with Jefferson State Community College – Pell City Spotlight is an all ages education and outreach program that gives opportunity to those in St. Clair County who wish to join the world of theater. The initiative was designed as a collaborative with the goal of providing all residents of St. Clair County with accessible and frequent opportunities to participate in theater together. Since then, the program has expanded rapidly, providing financial support and a performing home for eight drama clubs across the county. Spotlight’s more than 400 members collaboratively work to produce 10-12 live theater productions at CEPA each year.

Meet our Coordinator!

Maci Johnsey has been involved with CEPA since 2013 when she first attended Drama Camp. Maci continued her theatre career throughout her years at Pell City High School, and went on to pursue her degree in Theatre for Youth: Performance and Teaching Artistry at Samford University. After graduation in May of 2023, Maci moved to Orlando, FL for ten months to participate in the Disney College Program at Walt Disney World.

In addition to being the Director at Spotlight Kids Summer Drama Camp for six years, Johnsey has also served in various tech positions in a number of Spotlight productions throughout the years.

After the official confirmation of Ash Arrington as the Executive Director in June 2024, she and the Board of Directors at CEPA worked diligently to secure a new Assistant Director and Spotlight Program Coordinator. Johnsey was a prime candidate due to her specialized training in theatre for youth and her extensive experience with the facility and Spotlight Program.

“Maci Johnsey is a testament to the importance of the Spotlight Program. She discovered her love of the stage at CEPA participating in youth theater programs. She developed her talents throughout high school in Spotlight productions. She secured thousands in scholarship dollars due in part to an impressive resume, filled with technical credits. Maci Johnsey is a passionate individual with specialized training and a love for teaching. I cannot wait to see what she does with this program in the future.’”
