Jefferson State Pioneer Players
Founded in 2017, the Jefferson State Drama Club, newly renamed the Spotlight Pioneer Players, has been going strong for over five years. With membership of around 50 students, club advisor and Theater Instructor Lesley Warren always has plenty of volunteers for the many events club members participate in.
Jeff State students have been featured in every Spotlight Core production performed at CEPA, including The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, The Curious Savage, and Radium Girls. Members toured three campuses with their student-directed production of Almost, Maine, perform staged readings at Jeff State’s annual PioneerCon, write original scripts, regularly volunteer at CEPA, and collaborate with other clubs to create exciting new projects.
The greatest indicator of the success of the Spotlight Program is that Jeff State students keep coming back to participate long after they graduate. They view CEPA as their home theater and think of their co-performers as family. And that’s why we do theatre.
In the Spring of 2023, an original play titled: Fine By Mourning was produced. This work was created and written by Abby and Jenna Kelley, both students at Jefferson State.
The production starred a few Jeff State Students as well as Lesley Warren, the director of this Spotlight Club.
Fine By Mourning has been a great on stage opportunity and we are so excited to release its film adaptation in 2024.
